ISLAMABAD: Pakistani expatriates should have a mechanism to exercise their right to vote while their role in political and policy-making institutions of the country should be enhanced.
These were some of the key recommendations made at a seminar on “enhancing the role of overseas Pakistanis in nation building”, organised by the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Islamabad on Thursday. The seminar was organised to mark International Migration Day.
During the seminar, around 18 recommendations were made. Key among them were setting up an integrated database of Overseas Pakistanis is along with their skills profiles to better formulate policies.
To develop a mechanism where expatriates can be involved in the image-building of the country abroad and to boost exports to their host countries.
Moreover, it was recommended that the role of overseas Pakistanis should be increased in political and policy-making institutions of the country while a mechanism should be developed allowing expatriates to exercise their right to vote.
