“From Jain to Gujarati still you do it, from Gujarati to Hindu still it happens but this was different,” said the groom’s mother. And so, the groom’s family gave him an ultimatum. “They said you either choose her or you leave home…so, he left home,” Huda said.

The 27-year-olds were devastated. Breaking into tears, they narrated the story of their struggle, hoping their families would accept their relationship. “We would not have married until the day they approved the alliance,” Huda told BuzzFeed.
“I was hoping that they would at least see that the level of feelings we had for each other; they were quite strong so probably they would call me back,” said Maneet.

Fortunately, the parents eventually gave in and the couple had their beach wedding in Dubai. When asked what made them change their minds, the groom replied, “Love can change someone’s beliefs.”
