Using tech: Academics talk about making cities ‘smarter

LAHORE: Academics, researchers and students shared their ideas for smart cities during the closing ceremony of the two-day 10th annual IEEE International Conference on Open Source Systems and Technologies 2016 (ICOSST’16). The conference included speakers from around the world and the theme of the event was Smart Cities. It was organised by the Al-Khawarazmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS) of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore. Punjab Information and Technology Board Chairman and Chief Minister’s Adviser, Dr Umar Saif, was chief guest on the occasion. The two-day conference concluded at UET Lahore on Sunday.

“The Punjab government is implementing various programmes to bring smart city concepts with e-governance throughout the province,” he said. “This is also a golden opportunity for the academia to become a part of change through their input.”
