Team commended: Police bust gang of robbers in capital

Afghan nationals among those arrested

ISLAMABAD: Police on Tuesday said that they had nabbed a large group of burglars who had robbed several houses in the capital, including some within a police residential complex.

Separately, they said a habitual motorcycle thief had also been arrested.

A police spokesman said that they had received reports of robberies from several areas of the capital including Media Town, National Police Foundation, Sector G-6 and other prominent areas of the capital.

Following the complaints, a four-member investigation team led by Crime Investigation Agency DSP Bashir Noon probed the thefts. The team finally managed to nab the suspected burglars including Syed Wali, Noorullah, Sher Khan, Hamdullah, Jehanzeb Khan, Muhammad Irfan Haider, Sabz Ali. A police spokesperson said that Wali, Noorullah, Sher and Hamdullah were Afghan nationals while Haider and Ali were residents of Haripur.



Officials said that they had managed to recover 437.5 grammes of stolen gold jewellery, Rs8.5 million in cash along with $200, prize bonds worth Rs80,000, four LCD televisions, four laptops, a sewing machine, a Kalashnikov, two 30 bore pistols, a car and a motorbike from them.

During questioning, the men confessed to robbing at least nine houses in the capital.

Officials added that these were hardened criminals with some members of the gang having served jail time. Further investigations are underway and the police expect to recover more stolen goods from their possession.

Motorcycle lifter nabbed

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Islamabad Police, apprehend a wanted motorcycle lifter and recovered two motorcycles from his possession.

Muhammad Azeem, who hails from Faisalabad, told police during preliminary investigations that on October 26, 2016, he had stolen a Honda CD-70 motorcycle from Nadra centre in Blue Area. The motorcycle belonged to Mehmood Ahmed and a case of theft was registered at Kohsar police station.

He had then allegedly stolen another motorcycle, a Honda-125 of Shehbaz Hussain, from the parking of Faisal Mosque.

Further investigations are underway. Separately, the SIU nabbed suspected car thief Qazi Nazakat Mehmood and recovered a stolen car from him.
