ISLAMABAD:

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday expressed strong displeasure with a citizen for levelling allegations against members of the legal profession, remarking that the courtroom was "not a marketplace" and warning him not to utter another word against any lawyer.

Justice Kayani made these observations while hearing a petition relating to a land dispute. During the proceedings, the court inquired from the petitioner as to the whereabouts of his legal counsel.

In response, the petitioner stated that he had not engaged a lawyer, alleging that lawyers tend to side with the opposing party and that even after paying substantial fees, one could not rely on them.

At this, Justice Kayani reprimanded the petitioner and observed that such remarks were unacceptable in court. He categorically instructed the petitioner not to make any further statements against lawyers and advised that if he had any complaints, he should approach the relevant Bar Council.

The court further remarked that if allegations were being made, they must be supported by evidence and formally submitted to the Bar Council.
