Chapecoense player wakes up from coma, has no memory of crash

Neto asked doctors about the result of the final of Copa Sudamericana

Brazilian football club Chapecoense’s footballer Neto, who was one of the six people who survived in the plane crash that killed 71 people last month, has reportedly recovered from coma, but has no memory of the tragic incident.

The Independent reported that the 31-year-old goalkeeper asked the doctors about the result of the final of the Copa Sudamericana against Atletico Nacional, for which the team was originally travelling to Colombia when the unfortunate incident took place.

After gaining consciousness, Neto also asked the doctor why he could not take part in the final.

Doctors and psychologists have decided to not share information about the plane crash with the Araxa-born goalkeeper until he is mentally and physically stable.

“To avoid an emotional shock, which would be detrimental to his clinical recovery at this time, there is a recommendation from the psychologist not to tell him,” doctor Carlos Mendoca was quoted by The Independent. "We are waiting for a more informed opinion from a specialist."
