Grenade attack: Militants target girls college

At least 35 female students were injured in a brazen grenade attack on a college in Mardan district.

PESHAWAR: At least 35 female students were injured in a brazen grenade attack on a college in Mardan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkwa province, around 40 kilometers from the provincial capital, Peshawar.

Police said that the incident took place in jurisdiction of the Londkhawar Police Station, when two militants riding a motorcycle entered the Government Girls Degree College Landkhawar and lobbed two grenades on an ongoing college party. The blast also damaged the college bus parked nearby.

“Thirty-five students were injured in this attack,” District Police Officer Mardan Dr Zeeshan Raza told The Express Tribune.

Dr Raza said there were two attackers on a motorcycle and they managed to escape following the incident. The police official added that the miscreants also shot and injured Faras Khan – one of the victim’s father – when he tried to overpower the fleeing militants.

Following the incident, the police launched a search operation in the area, which was in progress till the filing of this report.

The attack came during a farewell thrown by third year students to their senior graduating class.

The injured were rushed to the Mardan Medical Complex, District Headquarters Hospital Mardan and Civil Hospital Landkhwar. Three students in critical condition were rushed to Peshawar.

Senior police officials and political leaders rushed to the scene of the attack and also visited the injured students at various hospitals where they were admitted.

Minister for Higher Education in Khyber-Pahkhtunkhwa (K-P) Qazi Asad termed the incident as worrying and said that the government will take steps to thwart such attempts in the future.

He himself should go in markets of Pakistan & listen what people say about Salman Taseer, Mumtaz Qadri & USA. We just need true and sincere leader and things will change rapidly. Mr. Imran should know Over 76 million people were brutelly killed in 1st and 2nd world war. Who fought these wars??? Were they Muslims? Study history of west man before representing them.

I love how America, Blackwater, the Jews and India are interested in defaming Islam only in Pakistan. It could be much easier for the Americans to frame Muslims in their own country, you would think Israel would like to create such propaganda in Palestine. No, it has to be done in Pakistan, to prove a point to who? The Pakistani's? Our country is being attacked by people who have lost their humanity and religion. It is about time we stop blaming the rest of the world for our issues and fight for a Pakistan that was envisioned by Jinnah. The law and order people in Pakistan would love to get their hands on one of these foreigners and parade them in front of the cameras to show that a "third party" a "foreign hand" is involved. Moreover, we in Pakistan do not need these enemies as long as we have friends like the Taliban, the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and their ilk. From the statements made by those who are caught, it is clear that minds are being poisoned in the mosques and madrassas and through sections of the media by our prayer leaders, religous teachers and so called talkshow hosts. If we want to stop this bloodshed we have to stop them. We have to replace the "syllabus" taught in these centers of learning and propoganda by one that teaches peace and tolerance--something we don't tire of claiming to be the essense of Islam.

There is a clear link between DAVIS going on trial and these killings. Bhatti's killing , this one and Karachi's , are all linked. Same hand behind it. All is needed is a little thinking and ability to connect the missing dots. One thing is clear that they being financed by someone from outside. And that outside is across the Borders in Afghanistan. I am a Muslim and i know that its sin to even hurt feeling of others and they are killing innocent people. There could be following reasons why they are doing this: 1.India’s RAW, America’s C.I.A, Israel’s Mosad are defiantly involved in it and every single person in Pakistan knows that. Their purpose is to destabilize Pakistan and pursing their benefits in this region. Innocent people who are dying in Drone attacks are taking their revenge. Because if my innocent kid will die. What option I will have? Definitely economic aid is involved in it because how can automatic weapons arrive in caves and who is supplying it. This is an agenda to denigrate Islam and to show Muslims are fundamentalist but they will never succeed.

However, it is a grim warning to those who still support these unsound fanatics in Pakistan and Afghanistan and dont take action, which will only result in more chaos and ultimate collapse of state machinery in both countries.
