School education: Officers summoned to discuss enrolment issues

LAHORE: All executive district officers for education in Punjab will sit together today to discuss improvements in school enrolment, getting brick kiln workers into schools, performance of teachers and other administrative matters.

The EDOs have been advised to discuss the registration of students and ensure 10% increase in registration of students for 5, 8, 9, 10 grades as compared to the year 2016, according to the agenda of the meeting called by the Punjab school education secretary,

Under discussion would also be correction of registered student data for annual exams and achievement of enrolment targets in all districts, enrolment of children of brick kilns workers and those working at workshops and petrol pumps as well.

Different initiatives undertaken by the Punjab government, including distribution of Khidmat cards, double shifts in schools, developments on early childhood education, complaint resolution and action against absent teachers will also be discussed.

The meeting will also look into private schools’ registration and renewals and ensuring the schools have paid commercialisation fees without charging extra amount from students.

Additionally, ensuring functioning of computer labs, science labs, CCTV cameras, metal detectors, weapons, identification and construction of additional classrooms, reconstruction of dangerous buildings, provision of missing facilities and procurement of lab equipment are also on the agenda.
