Wildlife conservation: ‘Animals in zoo should be provided proper care, food’

Commissioner says cages be repaired immediately

BAHAWALPUR: Bahawalpur Commissioner Saqib Zafar has directed the officials of district zoo to undertake comprehensive measures and provide proper care and food to the animals and birds. He also issued instructions to maintain cleanliness in and around the premises of the zoo.

He made these remarks while presiding over a meeting of Bahawalpur zoo management committee on Friday.

The meeting was attended by Coordination Additional Commissioner Syed Waseem Hassan, Bahawalpur City Assistant Commissioner Rao Tasleem Akhter, Bahawalpur Zoo Curator Khursheed Qaisrani, Public Relations Deputy Director Nasir Hameed and other officers.

The meeting decided to undertake immediate steps to take necessary measures to meet the shortage of technical staff to ensure proper functioning of the zoo.

The commissioner directed the administrator of the zoo to take necessary steps to avoid laying sewerage line within the premises of the zoo.

“Anti-dengue spray and repair of cages for animals and birds should immediately be undertaken,” Saqib Zafar said.

He maintained, “Necessary measures should be taken for exchange of surplus animals and birds with other zoos through barter system.”
