LAHORE: The Punjab University and Abacus Consultants teamed up to develop an examination management information system (EMIS) to replace the existing one.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was organised at the registrar office of the university. This was stated in a statement issued by the university on Wednesday

According to the statement, the new system will have various salient features. For instance, the candidates will be able to submit their admission forms, rechecking forms, subject or centre change forms, degree forms and degree verification forms thorough online access. A bar code will be automatically provided by the system when candidate prints the form.

The same bar code will be used to deposit fees in a bank through a system generated challan form.

It further said that the new system will feature a reliable and secure award management mechanism to ensure timely and error free result preparation. It will be developed to minimise the candidate’s need to physically come to university, which will save a lot of time of the office and student.

The EMIS system will be flexible enough to accommodate all existing and future examinations by providing customised rule set definitions.

Moreover, colleges will be able to submit their affiliation request, adjustments in increase and decrease of intake limits and affiliation team visit requests. Private candidates will be able to self-register online by providing information about their roll number, year, session, board, university and address etc.

The system will automatically print the due fee and the candidate’s particulars as per a schedule notified by the university. The candidates will be able to print their roll number slips and centre information from the website. The same can also be obtained by sending SMS on a unique number for the university.

The new system will provide a mechanism to define examination buildings and centres using location, capacity and other relevant parameters. The system will help with the management of material, including questions papers and answer sheets in accordance with data entered through admission forms.

Punjab University Controller of Examinations Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Acting Treasurer Rao Muhammed Sharif, Abacus Consultants Managing Director Abbas Khan and other officials attended the event.
