ICC grants points to Pakistan Women after India's refusal to play

Governing body concludes BCCI was unable to establish ‘acceptable reasons’ for not participating in series

After written submissions from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the International Cricket Council (ICC) has ruled India Women have forfeited each of their three matches against Pakistan Women, thus awarding Pakistan six points for the series.

The matches, which were scheduled to be played between August 1 and October 31, did not take place due to ongoing tensions between the two countries, and the international governing body’s technical committee ruled in favour of Pakistan, giving them two points for each of the three games.



According to the press release, even though the committee was sensitive to the current state of relations between the two nations, it concluded that the BCCI had not been able to establish “acceptable reasons” for not participating in the series.

However, the decision will bring no change to the current standings on the ICC Women’s Championship Points Table, with India remaining in fifth position and Pakistan remaining in seventh position.



Australia, England, New Zealand and the West Indies have already qualified for 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, with India, South Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka set to join Bangladesh, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Thailand in the Women’s World Cup Qualifier to be played in Sri Lanka from February 7 to 21.
