Snooker: Masih, Shahzad win openers

Duo open their campaign at IBSF World Snooker Championship in Doha with victories

Pakistan’s second-ranked cueist Babar Masih opened his campaign at the IBSF World Snooker Championship in Doha, Qatar yesterday with a 4-2 win over Iceland’s Thorri Jensson.

Masih took the first three frames 59-56, 72-59, 78-21 before Jensson woke up and took the fourth and fifth frames 92-25, 72-12 respectively.

Just when the Icelander seemed on the verge of parity, Masih won the sixth frame 71-14 to win the match.

Asif targeting glory as cueists off to Doha

This is the first time Masih is competing at the World Championship, while 2012 IBSF world champion Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Bilal complete the Pakistan contingent.


Meanwhile, Imran Shahzad registered a win in the masters event where cueists above the age of 40 are battling for the title.

Shahzad defeated Austria’s Christian Hochmayer 3-1.
