A division bench, headed by Chief Justice Mushir Alam, was hearing a petition filed by advocate Syed Ali Mehdi against illegal parking fees and restricted car parking on three roads adjoining the Metropole Hotel.
He submitted that the traffic authorities had banned parking on three roads - Mereweather Road, Club Road and Abdullah Haroon Road - since the 2006 PIDC House bomb blasts. He contended that his clients faced great hardship. But the traffic police only allowed parking after charging Rs40 from each four-wheeler. He prayed the court to restrain the authorities from illegally charging the fee and preventing parking. DSP Traffic Jahangir Mughal, DSP Taimour Baig and Yousuf Durrani of the Cantonment Traffic Section appeared. They were given ten days to submit comments.
