‘Concept of higher education is undergoing a change’

Almost 950 students graduate as ceremony for two batches held on the same day

ISLAMABAD: The concept of education is undergoing a change even as knowledge acquisition and higher education in a fast-paced world was transforming virtually every aspect of modern society.

This was stated by speakers as 948 graduate and post-graduates were awarded degrees at the 96th and 97th convocations of Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), held in two separate ceremonies on Thursday.

PhDs were awarded to 14 students including Ali Zaman, Shahid Mehmood, Muhammad Rizwan, Rabia Fayyaz, Waqas Sarwar Abbasi, Hamid Rahman, Sadia Perveen, Abdul Raheem, Kamran Latif, Ali Arshad, Tariq Bashir, Ahmad Naseem Alvi, Mariam Akbar and Maleeha Maria in physics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, and in biosciences.

Those who secured chancellor’s gold medals for showing extraordinary academic performance in Spring 2016 included  Alishba Tahir, Ramsha Loan, Maimoona Iqbal, Noorulain, Sheraz Hussain, Mubbashir Sheikh, Palwasha Riaz , Kiran Ali, Huma Hamid,  Hasan Farid Zafar, Sameen Noushad , Ujala Saeed, Ali Murtaza , Hiba Khalid, and Muhammad Tahir Mehmood.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology and CIIT Chancellor Rana Taveer Hussain was the chief guest in the morning convocation and awarded degrees and medals to successful students.  In the second session, Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Masood Khan was the chief guest.

Addressing the students, Khan said developed countries focused on industry, innovation, technology and promoted higher education in their states. The concept of higher education is undergoing a change, he said adding that our nation as a whole expects higher education to connect the past with the present and meet the challenges of the future.
