LAHORE: The ongoing protest by junior doctors on Mall Road for the third consecutive day has severely affected businesses and routine life in Lahore.

Hall Road Anjuman-e-Tajiran General Secretary Babar Ali Khan told The Express Tribune the business activity on Mall Road, Hall Road, Beadon Road, Temple Road and other adjoining areas had been affected as protesters had blocked the main artery leading to these commercial areas.

“Successive governments failed to address the issue,” he complained,  pointing out that the Lahore High Court’s  verdict against protests on Mall Road had also been disregarded.

On October 20, an LHC judge took suo motu action against the blockade of Mall Road and summoned three top officials to explain why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them, and they be punished accordingly.
