LAHORE: The World Radiography Day was celebrated at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) in Lahore on Tuesday.

On the occasion, consultant radiologist Dr Amjad Iqbal said radiology is the backbone of any hospital. Radiography involves preparation and production of medical imaging to assist clinical radiologists and other doctors to diagnose, monitor, or treat a disease.

He noted that radiology has advanced significantly in the past ten years with the availability of ultrasounds, CT scans, MRI scans, PET and SPECT scans. He mentioned that the development of nuclear medicine is especially noteworthy as it provides unique information about the body at molecular level and offers the potential to identify disease in its earliest stages.
