UK aims to expand bilateral trade

KARACHI: Pakistan and the United Kingdom are aiming to take bilateral trade to £2 billion from the current level of £1 billion, in the next five years, according to Commercial Counsellor Pakistan High Commission UK Saira Najeeb Ahmed.

She expressed these views at a meeting arranged at the British Deputy High Commission on Tuesday. A visiting 14-member delegation of UK-based business persons met with businessmen in Karachi and also went to the offices of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

The visit came a week after the United Kingdom Trade and Investment hosted a conference on ‘Doing business in Pakistan’, Najeeb added.

UK Deputy High Commissioner Robert Gibson expressed hope that members of the first business delegation from UK to Pakistan this year could witness the potential trade and investment opportunities in Pakistan.

Jonathan Webber, the leader of the delegation, said that the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry remains committed to developing trade opportunities between all sectors.
