Army chief lauds FWO contributions to Pakistan

Gen Raheel stated that going into inaccessible areas to connect the remotest parts of the country

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Monday paid tribute to the 1,300 officers and soldiers of Frontier Works Organisation, who laid down their lives during executions of various national projects since 1966.

Speaking to the participants at FWO’s golden jubilee celebrations in Thalian, Gen Raheel said that the organisation has played a central role in spearheading the army’s contribution in all nation building efforts. “Over the years, FWO has developed into a strategic organisation with tremendous capability to deliver projects of national significance,” he added.

In addition to numerous hydel and mining projects, construction of Karakoram Highway, Central Trade Corridor through Wazirstan to Afghanistan, Coastal Highway and now over 1,000kms roads in CPEC are some of their signature projects.

The army chief stated that going into inaccessible areas to connect the remotest parts of the country with mainland, highest quality work in least time has been FWO’s hallmark and he congratulated them on accomplishing the unthinkable. He vowed for that the army would continue working for the country’s security and prosperity.

Khan | 8 years ago | Reply Asim Bajwa did a great job in glorifying the person of Gen Raheel. He was rewarded for his efforts. However he did little to glorify the Army who were laying down their lives which of course glorified the image of the COAS. He turned the solumn occasion like 6 September into TV morning shows and for reasons best known to him intruded into the privacy of the Military Academy Kakul. Similarly postings transfers of senior officers were put on media more than desirable limit.Movement of troops and routine PAF training events were publicised! ISPR needs to do some introspection.
