KARACHI: Salary funds of the local government employees have not been frozen and staff will draw their salaries as usual, explained Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Saturday.

The Sindh government had recently frozen the accounts of the local government in order to redistribute financial resources among all the local bodies, including those which have been recently created but do not have functional salary accounts.

Shah said that the freezing of the local bodies’ accounts was to redistribute financial resources among the local bodies.

“Some new local bodies were created by carving out from the old ones for which distribution of funds has to be made accordingly,” he said, adding that the new local bodies have no allocations and their share was going to the old local bodies, therefore the process of redistribution of funds has been started.

He stated that the redistribution of funds among the old and new local bodies would be completed by the first week of November and accounts would be made active thereafter.
