The petroleum ministry – which has been vehemently arguing for rationalising the management of nation’s natural gas resources presented figures on new gas connections, which revealed a marked bias in favour of connections to consumers in Sindh and Punjab.

MULTAN: A total of 45,000 new domestic gas connections would be provided to citizens in 2016-17 in the Multan region, which covers several districts in southern Punjab, General Manager Sui Northern Gas (SNGPL) Amjad Mumtaz said Friday. He told APP that SNGPL showed a precipitous increase in rolling out new connections, adding that the number had doubled compared to last year. Of the 45,000 new connections, 5,000 were urgent cases wherein people deposited an extra amount in accordance with the 10% quota allotted to urgent cases.
