Agricultural growth: World Bank team meets Sindh livestock dept

Discusses investment to transform dairy and livestock sectors

KARACHI: A four-member delegation of the World Bank’s implementation plan mission on Sindh Agricultural Growth Project (SAGP), led by Khalid Bin Anjum Wednesday, held a meeting with Sindh Livestock Minister Muhammad Ali Malkani and Secretary Ghulam Hussain Memon.

They discussed joint investment in Sindh to transform the dairy and livestock sectors, provide small- and medium-scale farmers with farm equipment, tools and farm sheds, said a statement.

The minister briefed that as per the agreement the project may gradually be extended to other districts. He further said that under the rehabilitation program, the veterinary hospitals and laboratories shall be transformed fully as modern veterinary facilities.

The mission, along with officials of the livestock department, will visit the project sites and review the implementation process.

The project is reviewed on a monthly basis to monitor the recommendation and progress for the benefit of the farmers of dairy, livestock, fisheries and poultry sectors at designated sites of the project.

The meeting was attended by Livestock Director General Akbar Soomro, P&D representative Sahib Mangi, SAGP PD Nazeer Kalhoro, World Bank representativeNazar Mahar among others.
