LAHORE: Students from the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) took to the streets on The Mall to protest against the ‘privatisation’ of education, ban on student unions and disparities in the education system on Wednesday. According to them, the poor have been deprived of education because of the current system.

The students, many of whom were in their uniforms, chanted slogans against the government and held banners and placards demanding a ‘just’ education system.

Speaking at the rally, IJT Nazim-e-Aala Sohaib uddin Kakakhel claimed that the government was closing the doors of educational institutions by privatising schools and colleges. He threatened to barge the Punjab Assembly if the government did not reform the education policy. Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hafiz Salman Butt was also present during the rally.
