A senior CDGL official said that the teams, made up of a combination of police and city government inspectors, would focus on places where kite-flying was traditionally popular, like the Old City, Anarkali, Gawalmandi, Lohari and Mughalpura.
The official said that the teams would raid kite makers, kite clubs, sellers and manufacturers. He said that last year’s crackdown by the city government had shown that it was serious about implementing the ban so there would be fewer people attempting to violate the ban this year. Punjab Prohibition of Kite Flying (Amendment) Bill, 2009 forbids committing or abetting the act of kite flying and/or manufacture and sale of kites.
