FAISALABAD: All Pakistan Cotton Power looms Association (APCPA) members have said power loom sector is facing serious crisis due to ineffective policies of the government.

They said more than 50% power loom factories have already been closed, while the rest are on the verge of closure.

While addressing the executive committee members in Faisalabad on Sunday, APCPA Chairperson Chaudhry   Abdul Haq said more than one million workers were working in the power loom sector.

He added, “Owing to uncertainty, the whole sector is on the verge of closure and it is feared that thousands of workers will become jobless.”

He said the government should announce special package for power loom industry to control the financial crisis as well as to promote cloth export.

“Presently, the powor loom industry is bearing multiple direct and indirect taxes, including sales tax,” the APCPA chairperson said.

“The current situation has resulted in a surge in unemployment in the country and stopped fresh investment in power loom sector,” he lamented.

Abdul Haq warned that if immediate measures were not taken to address their grievances than they will be compelled to hold protests.
