QUETTA: The poliovirus has been detected in fresh sewage samples retrieved from Quetta, Pishin and Qilla Abdullah, indicating that the crippling disease still poses a threat to children in the province. The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) has recommended that Balochistan focus on the high risk area of Quetta-block (which includes Quetta, Pishin, and Qilla Abdullah). Doctors of WHO took samples from the sewage last month. “These samples proved that poliovirus still exists in the environment of these three districts,” a source in the Emergency Operation Centre for Polio said.
