Disputed arrears: LESCO barred from recovering GST

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has restrained the electricity authorities from recovering disputed arrears of general sales tax (GST) from consumers. Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh observed only the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had the authority to recover the disputed arrears. Representing the petitioner companies, Advocate Mohsin Virk told the court that the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) had been recovering disputed amount of the tax invoking Section 48 of Sales Tax Act) illegally. He said LESCO or any other electricity distribution company was not allowed to recover disputed arrears.
