Football: WAPDA down KE to reach Challenge Cup semi-final

Both teams were unable to break the deadlock in normal and extra time and the match had to be decided on penalties

KARACHI: WAPDA defeated Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) champions K-Electric (KE) 5-4 on penalties in the 2016 All-Pakistan Football Challenge Cup at Qayyum Stadium in Peshawar yesterday.

WAPDA took the lead in the first half when Ayaz Khan found the net in the 35th minute of the match. However, K-Electric equalised through Saddam Hussain in the 67th minute.

Both teams were unable to break the deadlock in normal and extra time and the match had to be decided on penalties, with WAPDA emerging victorious.

“KE were extremely difficult to play but we managed to defeat them,” WAPDA striker Arif Mehmood, who scored the winning penalty, told The Express Tribune. WAPDA will now face PIA in the semi-final tomorrow, while PAF will play Islamabad in the first semi-final today.
