A large number of people visiting graveyards in Muharram are upset as the graves of their loved ones have been removed to make space for new graves.
Some graveyards, including Hasan Colony, Sadat Mohallah, Adda Khanpur, Iqbal Nagar, Basti Amanat Ali, Chak 111-P and Noory Wali, were built several decades ago and have run out of space over the years.
Hadi Alam Welfare Society General-Secretary Chaudhry Boota Tahir said it has become difficult to bury the dead, as at least Rs20,000 to Rs25,000 were required to make arrangements to bury a deceased.
“Every month I pay for the temporary burial of around five to 10 unclaimed bodies, which are later returned to their heirs,” he said.
