QUETTA: Bureaucracy is the main hurdle in transfer of power to local body institutions, using elected public representatives as ‘peons’, Balochistan Minister for Local Government Sardar Mustafa Khan Tareen alleged on Monday.

He stated this while talking to elected members of various local body institutions.

Tareen, who belongs to the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) said that bureaucracy was unwilling to give due importance to the elected representatives or the people who voted for them.

“Bureaucracy is actively obstructing the transfer of power to local body institutions, causing delays in timely resolution of public issues,” Mustafa Tareen maintained.

The delegation of local bodies’ representatives that met the minister included Chairman of Sibi District Council Malik Qaimuddin Dahpal and Chairman of the Sibi Municipal Committee Haji Muhammad Daud Rind.
