SAHIWAL: At least seven people, including three police officials were arrested for stealing electricity jumpers in Sahiwal on Monday.

Noorshah police official told The Express Tribune the electricity jumpers were purchased for Qadirabad Coal Power Project.

He added the arrested policemen belonged to Special Protection Unit and were deployed on the security of the machinery for the said project. He said the suspects were identified as ASI Shahzad Asim, Constable Babar, Constable Haider, Driver Shuhail Akhtar, Zulfiqar, Muhammad Boota and Bilal.

The official maintained 54 electricity jumpers and Rs0.4 million were seized from them.

He said the suspects had confessed to their involvement in the crime during interrogation.

However, he said the main suspects ASI Muhammad Ishaq and Constable Rashid Iqbal were still at large. Raids were being conducted to arrest them, he told The Express Tribune.
