The shoppers at Wahdat Colony’s Model Sunday Bazaar also complained about poor quality of the fruits and vegetables, besides high prices. Nousheen, a woman shopping at the bazaar, told The Express Tribune most of the vendors were selling second grade fruit and vegetables or blended varieties at high prices.
She pointed out Wahdat Colony’s bazaar administration or market committee did not mention rates of second grade fruit and vegetables in the official price lists, despite being aware that almost all the vendors were selling them.
Another shopper, Muhammad Javed, said bananas were being sold for Rs40 to Rs50 a dozen everywhere else in the city, but in Wahdat Colony’s bazaar the official price of bananas was fixed at Rs 52 a dozen. He added it showed how the state machinery was regulating prices of commodities.
Several hawkers were selling bananas for Rs35 to Rs40 a dozen in front of the bazaar, but nobody paid attention to flawed price fixation.
