Inam’s half-century steers HBL to five-wicket win

Batsman makes 57 as team down Islamabad in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy

KARACHI: A half-century by Inamul Haq guided HBL to a five-wicket win over Islamabad on the third day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy’s second-round fixture at the Diamond Ground in Islamabad yesterday.

Chasing 154, HBL resumed their innings on 15-0 and reached the target in 41.3 overs as Inam scored 57 runs off 91 balls, while Ramiz Aziz made 43 off 81 balls to reach 160-5. Shahzad Azam, meanwhile, dismissed two batsmen.

Inam, meanwhile, was glad that he could contribute towards his side’s win. “It was a low-scoring pitch but we were able to win the match. I wasn’t able to score much in both innings, but I’m glad that the runs I scored were enough to win the match.”

In another match, a century by Ayaz Tasawar helped WAPDA post a target of 374 runs for Karachi Blues at the National Stadium of Karachi. WAPDA resumed their second innings on 184-6 and were able to add 39 runs before being dismissed on 223. At the end of play, Karachi Blues were batting on 47-1.

At the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the hosts, who had resumed their first innings 90-2, were able to add only 187 runs before being asked to follow on by UBL, who had scored 448 in the first innings. Rumman Raees and Zohaib Shera took four wickets apiece while Lahore Blues were 33-1 in their second innings.

In the match between SSGC and Peshawar, the departmental outfit resumed their first innings on 238-1 and added 224 more runs, courtesy Awais Zia’s 158 and Ali Asad’s 91-run knock, to post 462. Asif Fawad and Taj Wali were able to take six and three wickets respectively.

Peshawar were in their second innings on 46-0, trailing by 83 runs at stumps.

Meanwhile in the Pool B match between Lahore Whites and PIA, Umar Akmal scored a century to help his team post a second-innings total of 224 runs to give a target of 415. At the end of play, PIA were batting on 115-4.

In another match, FATA resumed their first innings on 234-4 and were restricted to 298 as KRL’s Muhammad Abbas took five wickets, while Nayyar Abbas claimed four. At the end of play, KRL were batting on 194-5 with a lead of 248 runs.

At the NBP Stadium in Karachi, NBP were only able to post 318 runs, despite a century by Usman Sallahuddin (113) and a 77-run knock by Ramiz Raja Jr, and were asked to follow on as Tabish Khan took five wickets after Karachi Whites had made 628 runs in the first innings. At the end of play, NBP were batting on 6-0 trailing by 304 runs.
