KARACHI: Renovations of one track of the Shaheed-e-Millat Expressway starting from Qayyumabad Roundabout till City School PAF chapter still await completion despite the passing of its Tuesday deadline.

Earlier, while talking to The Express Tribune, site engineer of the project Muhammad Ali Sheikh said that the 3.75 kilometre track required urgent attention, which is why the work was initiated. Regarding the delay in the work, he said that only the last part of the road is left to be completed. Sheikh did not give an official deadline for the completion of the project but estimated that it would be done by Sunday now.

Sheikh explained that the delays were caused by garbage lying on one side of the road. When the trash was removed it was discovered that the road beneath it was in a terrible condition and required carpeting as well as reshaping to align it with height of the existing road surface.

He added that the last part of the track had very large pits therefore they are focusing on leveling the road instead of just filling it with tar and leaving it for the commuters to suffer. He said the expressway is used by thousands of commuters daily as it is one of the main arteries that transport commuters from districts Central, East and West to districts South and Korangi

The renovation work began on September 22 under the Sindh government's projects directorate, and is being supervised by the local government department.
