LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has suspended a notification of the Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) that bars admission in FSc if there is a gap of five years after passing matriculation.

A student had filed a petition against a government college in Faisalabad for denying him enrolment at the institution.

The court also directed Faisalabad Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education to entertain the student’s admission who passed his matriculation in 2011 for FSc (medical group).

Muhammad Irfan submitted he could not continue his education after matriculation due to financial constraints but after a gap of six years, he applied for admission in intermediate.

The college rejected his admission, citing his five-year gap as the reason. The HED does not allow admission to students who take a five-year gap after their matriculation examination.

Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar has suspended the notification and sought detailed responses by October 18.
