One dead as quakes jolt K-P

Tremors was also felt in the districts of Mansehra, Abbotabad, Battagram and Kohistan

PESHAWAR: A mild earthquake rattled the town of Naran in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Hazara division, killing one person and injuring seven others on Saturday.

The quake was measured at 2.9 on the Richter scale.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA)’s spokesperson Latifur Rehman, at least one person was killed and seven others injured in the quake. The sole fatality occurred when a boulder rolled down the mountain in Dodhyal area, a PDMA official said.

Another resident of Dhodhyal, identified as Muhammad Yusaf, fractured his arm while the other victims received minor injuries.

Tremors was also felt in the districts of Mansehra, Abbotabad, Battagram and Kohistan.

Meanwhile, another earthquake of 5.5 magnitude jolted districts of K-P, including Swat, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Mardan and Peshawar.
