Crackdown launched against shops failing to maintain cleanliness

MULTAN: To maintain food hygiene, the district administration launched a crackdown on Wednesday against food outlets and factories preparing unhygienic items across Multan.

City Assistant Commissioner Farooq Dogar told The Express Tribune at least four factories and seven food outlets, including bakeries, restaurants and hotels, were sealed in various parts of the city.

For the purpose, he said, a special task-force has been constituted by the district government on the directives of Multan District Coordination Officer Nadir Chatta.

The task-force’s job would be to conduct raids on food outlets selling unhygienic food items.

Dogar added the task-force raided different areas and sealed a confectionary shop and a bakery for not maintaining cleanliness in the outlets.

Two people were also arrested while cases were registered against the owners of these outlets.

The assistant commissioner said a factory making adulterated chilli and an ice factory were also sealed.
