SUKKUR: A minor girl was fortunate enough to save herself when a crocodile tried to attack her in a village near Riazabad at RD-115 of Nara Canal in Salehpat on Friday.

Children were playing at the embankment of a canal when all of a sudden a crocodile came out of the water and tried to attack a minor girl. However, the youngster escaped the attack. When the children started shouting for help, villagers rushed to the scene and immediately informed the wildlife department officials. However, despite a lapse of three hours, no official came to address the issue while the crocodile kept roaming around in the village.

When no official came from the wildlife department, the villagers took the matter into their own hands. A large number of people began to chase the reptile and forced it back into the canal.

Some time ago, another crocodile had come out of the canal and attacked goats and chicken. It was beaten to death by the villagers. Even then, no wildlife official came to remove the body of the slain crocodile despite having been informed. The deputy conservator of wildlife department, Taj Shaikh, was unavailable for comments.
