Pillion riding banned in Karachi

KARACHI:

The Sindh government has banned pillion riding and carrying of weapons in Karachi, effective from Monday night.

The ban on pillion riding on motorcycles will begin at 12am tonight,  and will be in effect till 12am on Wednesday. Additionally, a ban on carrying weapons has also been announced during the said period. All weapons carrying permits have been suspended till Wednesday night. The Sindh Home Department has issued a notification for the ban.

Women, children below the age of 12, senior citizens and journalists will be exempt from the ban.

In January, the Sindh home department had issued a notification banning pillion riding for one week, due to the rising number of target killings. A number of motorcyclists were detained in this regard.
