The University of Oxford has become the first British university to top the Times Higher Education's global league table, knocking the California Institute of Technology into second place.

Oxford topped the list because it improved across the four main indicators that influence the rankings - teaching, research, citations and international outlook, Times Higher Education said.

While Oxford, the University of Cambridge and London's Imperial College make the top 10 along with ETH Zurich, the list is dominated by US universities.

The Top ten universities on the list are as follows:

1. University of Oxford

2. California Institute of Technology

3. Stanford University

4. University of Cambridge

5. Massachusetts Institute of Technology

6. Harvard University

7. Princeton University

8. Imperial College London

9. ETH Zurich - Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich

10. University of California, Berkeley

Kamal | 8 years ago | Reply Being in the top 800 list is not some thing to be proud off. Universities and research institutes generally have a ranking around 100 after that its just tuition centers that look like universities.
Jawad | 8 years ago | Reply If Comsats is the top university in Pakistan then we deserve to be doomed. Comsats is full of people whose primary objective is to make money without doing any work let alone research. They have also recently manipulated nature rankings by being part of articles that include 150-250 authors from around the world just to give the impression and fool the government that they are doing research.
