PM hands over dossier on Kashmir atrocities to Ban Ki-moon

Pictures of pellet gun victims leave United Nations Secretary General shocked

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday handed over a dossier detailing atrocities in Indian-held Kashmir to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York.

The premier showed Ban images of Indian military victimising  the unarmed and defenceless people of Kashmir using brute force. Apprising the UN chief about the gross rights violations, Sharif said over one hundred people had been killed and a thousand injured over the last 74 days in the region.

The premier also highlighted the indiscriminate use of pellet guns, that has left hundreds blind, saying it reflected the inhuman and barbaric mindset of Indian security forces. Ban expressed shock at seeing pictures of pellet gun victims and praised Pakistan for its prominent and active role in the United Nations and its contribution to the maintenance of global peace and security.



Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif demanded an independent inquiry and a UN fact-finding mission to investigate extra-judicial killings and brutalities perpetrated by security forces in Indian held-Kashmir to punish those found guilty. In a scathing response to Sharif’s address, India told the UNGA that Pakistan was “now host to the Ivy League of terrorism”.

At least 18 Indian military personnel  were killed on Sunday when four commando-style gunmen burst into an Indian Army brigade headquarters in Uri. The assault was among the deadliest in held Kashmir and has sharply ratcheted up tension between the nuclear-armed rivals.

Pakistan and India have been at odds since July 8 when a populist Kashmiri rebel leader Burhan Muzaffar Wani was killed by Indian forces. At least 100 demonstrators have so far been killed due to the occupied military’s indiscriminate use of force against Kashmiri masses.
