ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday extended
the bail before arrest of a suspect in the murder of Barrister Fahad Malik till September 28.

ATC-I Judge Syed Kausar Abbas Zaidi extended the bail of Hashim Ali, but not before directing the suspect’s counsel to conclude his arguments at the hearing.

Shalimar police booked Raja Arshad Mehmood, Noman Khokhar and eight others in the murder of Barrister Fahad, the nephew of former Senate Chairman Mohammad Mian Soomro.

Mehmood, the prime suspect in the murder case, was arrested by Federal Investigation Agency officials at the Torkham border while attempting to escape to Afghanistan on August 28.

Fahad was gunned down in F-10/3 in the wee hours of August 15. Malik Tariq Ayub, Fahad’s uncle, was also injured in the attack.

In an application submitted to the police, Tariq maintained he was injured by a bullet fired by Khokhar, while Fahad was shot at by Mehmood.

Police booked the suspects for murder, attempted murder and rioting. Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, has also been inserted in the case since the police said the incident spread fear in society.
