KARACHI: A London-based Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader, Nadeem Nusrat rejected on Tuesday the so-called ‘minus-one’ formula, saying the party was ‘nothing’ without its founder Altaf Hussain.

Nusrat was speaking to a gathering organised at the party's international secretariat in connection with the 63rd birthday of Altaf Hussain.

The remarks appeared to be a rejoinder to the MQM-Pakistan leadership’s decision to divorce itself from the party’s London office, from where Nusrat and Altaf operate.

Nusrat, who is the MQM convener in London, added that Altaf had given the Urdu-speaking community of Pakistan its identity.

In reaction to Nusrat's statement, the MQM-Pakistan reiterated that it has already dissociated itself from the London leadership.
