Amna Monnoo, socialite, and her sister Mehak Elahi, sub-editor of Paperazzi magazine, reminisce about their childhood. They reveal their hidden talents, love for Bollywood and some crazy moments they have spent together

What’s your first memory of each other?

Amna: Her being her filmy self! I remember once she was falling asleep, and her favourite song started playing on TV, so she jumped off her bed, tied her nightgown up and started dancing! Oh and the song was Sexy, Sexy, Sexy Mujhe Log Bolain. Mehak, don’t kill me!

Mehak: I remember when my parents refused to take her to India, she lay down on our driveway ranting about ‘middle child problems’. It was hilarious!

What is the craziest thing you have done together?

Amna: I remember how we used to smoke shisha in the bathroom in May, even with the crazy heat and no fan!

Mehak: I ironed her hair using an actual iron. Yes, we’re not normal.

What did you get punished for the most as a child?

Amna: My stubbornness.

Mehak: I don’t really remember being punished. Perks of being the youngest child maybe, but if I was, it was mostly because of not eating properly. Little did I know it was going to be the exact opposite situation when I grow up!

If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the others closet, what would it be?

Amna: I am pregnant! Nothing for the time being sadly.

Mehak: Besides clothing, I would grab her Louboutins! Those gold studded beauties have my heart.

If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would do?

Amna: I would do everything that Mehak is allowed to do. I had too many curfews!

Mehak: Her daughter Rania will be all mine! I would sleep, eat and repeat with my tiny tot!

What is the one thing you love about your sister?

Amna: She’s extremely caring and goes out of her way for people.

Mehak: She’s as filmy as I am. We share an immense love for Bollywood.

If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up?

Amna: I usually apologise! She never gives up.

Mehak: It starts with the silent treatment followed by saying sorry. Usually she ends up fixing for our lame fights.

What is the one secret talent your sister has, that you wish you did too?

Amna: She can crack anybody up with her jokes. Mostly at inappropriate occasions and times. That’s one hell of a talent!

Mehak: She’s an amazing cook and baker. Her molten cakes are out of this world. Even though I was a food and nutrition student, I’m not even half as good as she is!

Describe your sister in three words:

Amna: Loving, caring and extremely sensitive.

Mehak: Fun, quirky and vivacious.

Which fictional character is your sister most like?

Amna: Bubbles from Power Puff Girls!

Mehak: Dee Dee from Dexter’s Laboratory.

How are your personalities similar?

Amna: We are actually very different.

Mehak: Our personalities are poles apart.

I can’t live without my sister because…

Amna: She’s my baby sister and I love her to bits and pieces. She is my pillar of strength — I can’t even imagine what I would do without her.

Mehak: She’s my rock. I share almost anything and everything with her. She understands me like no one else, and most importantly, she listens to my endless whining without complaining at all.
