The long range missile is a joint venture of India and Israel

India on Tuesday test fired a long range surface-to-air missile developed jointly with Israel, The Hindu reported.

The long range missile, a joint venture of India and Israel, was test launched using a mobile launcher in the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off Odisha coast.



“Apart from the missile, the system includes a Multi Functional Surveillance and Threat Alert Radar (MF STAR) for detection, tracking and guidance of the missile,” an official of the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation said.

India on June 30, test fired a medium range missile (MR-SAM), developed jointly with Israel, from a defence base off Odisha coast. “The test launch was a grand success and it met all the targets,” the officer said.

The surface-to-air missile was launched after receiving signal from radars to intercept a moving aerial target with the help of an unmanned air vehicle (UAV) ‘Banshee’ over the Bay of Bengal.

According to reports, the system comprises of features, including a Multi Functional Surveillance and Threat Alert Radar (MF STAR) in order to detect, track and guide the missile.
