Work In Progress; Japan agrees to replace weather radars

ISLAMABAD: The government of Japan has agreed to replace weather radars in Islamabad and Karachi with the latest technology, and at a cost of Rs4 billion to predict severe climatic conditions. According to an official source, work on the installation of new radars at both ends is in progress. Meanwhile, keeping in view the recurring flash flooding in Kalpani Nullah of Mardan, the federal government has also provided funds to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) to install a radar in the area. This new radar at Mardan will be in operation by next year.
