Red meat: ‘Excessive consumption detrimental to health’

ISLAMABAD: Health experts have warned against the storage of meat for long periods following Eidul Azha, owing to the fact that it contains numerous bacteria which lead to diseases.

They explained that excessive use of red meat on the occasion could increase the likelihood of developing cardiovascular, kidney, liver, diabetes and gastroenteritis diseases.

Health expert Dr Arif Majeed said that excessive consumption of red meat could have negative impacts on citizens’ health, especially for those who store it for several months.

He added that excessive red meat consumption could increase uric acid and cholesterol levels, which in turn increase the risk of diseases.

Dr Majeed said eating excessive meat increases the risk of blood pressure.
