On tip-off: SHO, proclaimed offender killed in encounter

BATKHELA: A police officer was killed during an encounter with a group of proclaimed offenders in Kharki area adjacent to Malakand during the wee hours of Friday. In retaliation, a proclaimed offender was killed whereas his accomplice was arrested.

DSP Shah Mumtaz told the media they received a tip-off over which they raided a hideout within the jurisdiction of Kharki police station. He added when they reached there, occupants of the hideout opened fire on the police personnel. The latter retaliated – the encounter went on for around half an hour.

Subsequently, SHO Fazal Malik was injured. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. According to Mumtaz, a proclaimed offender was killed during the encounter whereas his accomplice, who was injured, was arrested. The arrested proclaimed offender was under treatment at the hospital. Soon after the encounter, security was tightened in the area and a number of suspects were also arrested during the search operation.
