PESHAWAR: Certificates and shields will be provided to workers of Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) for carrying out a cleanliness drive in the city during Eidul Azha to ensure the timely disposal of animal carcasses.

This was stated in a handout issued from the city district nazim’s office on Friday.

According to document, city district nazim Arbab Muhammad Asim has decided to award these certificates to award WSSP workers for clearing the city’s streets of the waste of sacrificial animals.

As per the document, the city district nazim has lauded the efforts of WSSP workers.

The handout cited Asim as saying the WSSP’s initiative has made the city’s streets cleaner than they had during Eidul Azha celebrations in previous years.

“Workers involved in the sanitation works will receive commendations certificates and shields,” the document cited the city district nazim as saying.

Awaiting solutions

Before the campaign was initiated, WSSP Chief Executive Officer Khan Zeb Khan had told journalists that WSSP had cancelled staff holidays on Eid and 1,898 staff members would take part in the cleanliness drive. In addition, pamphlets and banners inscribed with contact details of WSSP zonal offices were distributed.

However, a large number of residents complained that little had been done to ensure timely disposal of animal waste.

Residents of Kakshal and Latifabad said municipal workers did not collect animal carcasses and waste from their localities.
