PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak criticised the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz over Sunday’s incident when party workers stormed the K-P Assembly building and hoisted party flags on the gate.

On September 11, activists of PML-N protested against Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf in reaction to the latter’s sit-in in Raiwind, Punjab. The protesters held their demonstration outside the K-P Assembly and a few among them hoisted flags of PML-N over the assembly's gate. They shouted slogans against PTI Chairperson Imran Khan and other leaders.

Insiders privy to the matter said the legislative body would take legal action against those who were involved in the incident. “The assembly speaker would decide what action [needs] to be taken,” said a senior official at the K-P Assembly secretariat. “The speaker was to make a decision [on Thursday], but the FIR has not been registered yet,” the official added.

Adviser to CM on Information and Higher Education Mushtaq Ghani told The Express Tribune they will sit down and discuss the matter. “We will make a decision and decide our action, but nothing has been concluded yet.”

The chief minister has called the incident a shameful and highly condemnable act. “We will take legal action against those who ransacked the assembly building,” Khattak told the media at his ancestral village in Nowshera over the Eid holidays.

Khattak added the act of climbing the walls and gate of the assembly and hoisting party flags exposed the real face of PML-N. He said the party was resorting to foul play to stop the Ehtesab March of Imran Khan to Raiwind.

On the other hand, K-P Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has summoned the session of the assembly on Monday, September 19 at 3pm.
