Seven killed in Sanghar crash

Witnesses said the coach hit the Suzuki pick-up from behind while trying to overtake the vehicle

SANGHAR: Seven people, among them a woman and children, died in the early hours of Monday when a passenger coach rammed into a pick-up on the Tando Adam-Jhol road in Sanghar district. Nine people also sustained injuries in the crash. Witnesses said the coach hit the Suzuki pick-up from behind while trying to overtake the vehicle.

Police and rescuers reached the spot after the accident and ferried the dead and the injured to Taluka Hospital Tando Adam, where medics referred them to Civil Hospital Hyderabad for specialised treatment.

Four of the victims have been identified as Nasreen, wife of Imam Bux, pick-up driver Muhammad Jumman, Soomar and Mohammad Umar Mallah. The coach driver, Zahoor Korai, was also among the injured.

All the deceased and the injured belong to a village in Jati taluka of Thatta district. According to police, all of them were labourers. The FIR could not be lodged till Monday afternoon.
